HISTORY of CCW - POWYS

1984 :-  the county of Powys wasn't the most exciting place for the keen chop builder. There were no custom shops and no clubs. We were getting a bit sick of the locals and were looking to get involved with others on the same wave length as us. At this time a letter was sent to Mr. Bamber the secretary of the National Chopper Club.

 1984 :-  we are put in touch with members of the Welsh club in Neath. After many phone calls and numerous visits to South Wales, late in 1985 the area of Mid Wales is formed. Mid Wales as a county attend there first Chopper Club run (Berkshire 85).

1986 :-  and the county receives its first back patches. Throughout 1986 we get many inquiries about the club, which now expands rapidly. Membership increases five fold and we hold our first party. At the end of the year we open our first club house.

1987 - 1988 :-  see the quality of membership increase while numbers decrease slightly. The county as a whole concentrate on improving the bikes and trikes.While not on runs in the UK and Europe we spend most weekends traveling around Wales flying the patch. Also in 1988 Mid Wales becomes Powys when the country is restructured. And we open our second club house.

1989 :- Rep for the county changes. The new Rep looks to increase membership further south.

1990 :- Powys put on their first national run and of course it was dry and sunny (NOT).

1991 :- Welsh club starts devolution process. Powys member becomes Vice rep for Wales.

1992  :- All Wales run in south Wales. The whole Welsh club is there to impress, yet another sunny weekend in Wales.

1993 :- Chopper Club celebrates 20 YEARS

1994 :- CHOPPER CLUB WALES becomes independent.

1995 :- Welsh independence run.

Also in 1995 we have a Rep change. Membership centralizes in the county.

1996-2001:- see's the county improving their bikes in line with Welsh policy with a general tightening of the members.

After deciding to concentrate on one club house the all new Powys club house opened in 2001.

This is only a quick look at some of the focal points in our history.

What you can not convey are the excellent times that all the members, past and present have had over the years.
